Birdboard is a card collecting game for the birds you hear. Here's how it works, and how to reach us when something doesn't.

Listening for birds

Tap Listen and point your phone towards the birdsong. Birdboard identifies birds on your phone, from their songs and calls. Your recordings never leave it unless you share one yourself.

Birdboard only names birds that are expected where you are at that time of year, so it needs your location. Approximate location is fine.

If it doesn't pick up a bird, get a little closer, keep the phone still and give it time to hear a few calls. Wind, traffic and voices make birds harder to hear.

Collecting and levelling up

Each bird you hear becomes a card in your collection. You can collect a bird once a day, and each day you collect it again raises its level and adds to your points.

Streaks earn bonus points. Collect a bird with Listen on days in a row and the day's first bird earns extra points. Collect the same bird on days in a row and, after a few days, it's worth more. Miss a day and the streak starts again.

Keeping your collection

Your collection belongs to an account the app makes for you. To keep it safe if you lose your phone, save it with a passkey in Profile. The passkey also opens your collection on another phone or on birdboard.co.

Your BirdWeather station

If you have a station that reports to BirdWeather, you can add it in Profile while you're within 2 km of it. The birds it hears can then go into your collection too.

Usernames, reporting and blocking

Your username and collection are public, and appear on the weekly leaderboard. Usernames that are offensive or pretend to be someone else are removed.

To report a player, open their profile from the leaderboard, tap the menu at the top and choose Report. You can block a player from the same menu, so they no longer appear on your leaderboard. You can unblock them in Profile. You can also report a player by email.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Profile and choose Delete account. This deletes your account and everything in it, including your collection and its place on the leaderboard. The privacy policy has the details.
